6th bunkers

Harleyford Golf Club
6th Bunkers

Over the last 10 years the bunkers on the 6th have seen a lot of action, a range of golfers from low handicap to high find these bunkers, as you can see in the pictures the edges have eroded away from sand splash to people climbing in and out of the wrong areas. The shape of these bunkers have changed somewhat over the last few years ending up with steep faces for sand to wash down and uneven bottoms which are hard to keep sand levels correct.
We came up with a plan to reshape the bunkers starting with the middle bunker in front of the green. First we took all the existing sand out of the bunker by hand then used a mini excavator do shape a small but deeper bunker. the weather held up well for the digging out but it soon got wet and didn't stop for about two months...
The idea was to make something that looks good to the eye and offers risk and reward from the tee. The bunkers have been fully drained in the form of deep sumps with a ballast infill. It took two staff one day to shape make the bunkers and prepare for re'vetting.   .
Re'vetting was all carried out in the rain, a very wet sticky job but by then we were lucky as a lot of other sites would not of got any machines out to the bunkers.

We still have some work to do a little turfing, some edging and fill with sand. this will all be compete by the 1st of April if not before.
